Exploring How to Increase Efficiencies in Resiliency Efforts

Blue Cross Blue Shield Industry Roundtable Takeaways

A lack of data is not the problem. The challenge is filtering data in order to surface the insights that are relevant to your organization and customers, as you need them. And once those insights are surfaced, how are you using them to bring a more proactive approach to business continuity programs?

Twice a year, in the spring and fall, Fusion hosts a Blue Cross Blue Shield industry roundtable. During these highly interactive sessions, industry professionals come together to discuss challenges, insights, and blueprints for success in their resiliency efforts.

During the March roundtable, attendees explored how they’re increasing efficiencies in their resiliency efforts by moving programs and data into a central location: Fusion. By shifting programs previously managed in Excel/Word into Fusion, one client was able to dynamically manage and track asset and event details, connect the dots between data and assets, and hone in on relevant information to make strategic decisions and proactively ensure continuity of services by supporting employees and members.

Building an Agile Event Monitoring Program to Gain a Holistic, Easily Shareable View

In one example, the team demonstrated how they moved their external event monitoring program into Fusion in order to better support employees and members while monitoring for external events. Key takeaways include:

  • Create the best point-of-view on the event or notification: Within a dashboard view, pull in data on events and notifications to gain a quick understanding of events by state, month, and year and criteria (what criteria was met to send out a notification) and notifications by incident type and state.
  • Establish parent (event) and child (notification) records for top-down and bottoms-up views: Gain a holistic understanding of event activity and dive into the notification record containing critical details for the incident.
  • Provide a snapshot of the incident for easy sharing to the business and executive leadership: Store key information (name, status, date, location, impacts, potentially impacted members, list of affected members, current situations, actions, resources, next steps) in a record that can easily be exported and shared with others.

Connecting the Dots and Surfacing Key Insights With Fusion

With a business continuity team whose responsibilities span across many areas (from external event monitoring to third-party resiliency to crisis management to enterprise operational resilience), the need to move information into a central location is increasingly important in supporting resiliency efforts. By moving programs into Fusion and connecting the dots between data and assets, this team was able to create a holistic view which empowers them to more dynamically monitor what’s happening to ensure continuity of services and more effectively share relevant information with executive leadership and business individuals.
